Who We Are
For infrastructure developers, technology providers, and investors seeking a partner in growth.
Founded by award-winning nonprofit organization, Water.org, WaterConnect is built on decades of experience investing in water and sanitation.
What We Do
WaterConnect partners with utilities as well as private sector companies that share the goal of expanding climate resilient water and sanitation infrastructure. Partners include infrastructure developers, engineering and construction firms, technology providers, and equipment suppliers.
WaterConnect works across the water value chain from bulk water, to distribution, to wastewater treatment and reuse. Projects can serve municipal or industrial water and sanitation needs, with a focus on impacting vulnerable communities, sustainable water resource management, and climate resilience.

Our service offerings include:

Co-financing project preparation
Sharing of project development risk and cost with partners from concept to financial close

Technology pilots

Impact
WaterConnect co-develops projects which accelerate water and sanitation access, contributing directly to Sustainable Development Goal 6 (“SDG6”): clean water and sanitation.
WaterConnect projects address at least one of the three impact areas in a low- or middle-income country:

Access
SDG6.1 and 6.2 (universal access to safely managed water and sanitation): Billions of people still lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Achieving universal coverage by 2030 will require a substantial increase in current global rates of progress.
WaterConnect impact area: Projects that improve access include expansion of municipal water and wastewater systems, as well as companies providing services and technologies that connect new households or improve service quality.

Quality
SDG6.3 (improve water quality): In emerging markets, the majority of municipal and industrial wastewater is discharged untreated, leading to severe pollution which in turn compromises watershed health and safe water access.
WaterConnect impact area: Projects that reduce pollution in freshwater systems through municipal, industrial, and commercial wastewater treatment and re-use.

Scarcity
SDG6.4 (address water scarcity): Demand for water is increasing from cities, agriculture, and industry, while supply is becoming more unreliable due to climate change.
WaterConnect impact area: Projects that mitigate the effects of water scarcity include municipal, industrial, and commercial water-use efficiency, non-revenue water reduction, desalination, rainwater harvesting, water conservation technology, and water efficiency.
